Outdoor activities in the Aravis mountain range
Both Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz offer a multitude of activities in the summer: golf, walking, hiking, mountain biking, via ferrata, climbing, canyoning, paragliding, outdoor aquatic centers, archery, tennis, mini-golf, poney trekking, toboggan runs, hotair balooning, bungee jumping, beach volley ball...
Walkers and hikers have a wide range of options available. Personal guided tours, group tours, family tours, kids tours and nordic walking can all be booked at the local Guides Office.
Several ski lifts run from late June to early September, accessible to pedestrians, mountain bikers and paragliders.
Mountain bikers have 200km of pistes to discover, covering cross-country, downhill, north-shore and four-cross. A "forfait special VTT" gives you access to all the specially equipped lifts in the Massif des Aravis. Mountain bike lessons can also be booked via the local Guides Office.
Fans of Via Ferrata can come from early May through to the end of October and explore the 3 main areas located in Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Thones.
The canyoning season generally starts in May and runs through to end October, guided tours can be booked via the local Guides Office.
The climbing season generally runs from June through to end October with climbing courses available for adults and kids for all levels of experience.
Multi-activity courses can be booked for kids, where they spend the day doing a mix of climbing, archery and tennis.
"High mountain" courses will take you right up to the summit of the Aravis, la Point-Percée, allowing direct access over to the Mont Blanc mountain range. Guided tours ranging from 1 day to a full 6 days can be organised to explore the local glaciers, try out different alpine climbing techniques, or even attempt the summit of Mont Blanc.
Paragliding is very popular in the Massif des Aravis. Tandem flights and courses can be booked through the local flying schools. Several ski lifts run from June to September to take you up onto the numerous plateaus to start your flight.
Hot-air balooning trips run all year round, in the morning and at the end of the day.
A 10 hole golf course is open every day from the start of May to the end of October. Lessons can be booked ranging from ½ hour up to a 5 day course. You can hire everything you need for families, groups or individuals.

Annecy is 40 minutes away. with its stunning lake (the cleanest in Europe), where you can swim, relax on one of the many beaches, hire a boat or a pedalo, take on water skiing, wake boarding and wind surfing. Annecy old town is a beautiful, historic place, dubbed the "Venice of the Alps" because of the canal network which meanders through it. Visit the historic 13th century chateau and museum, explore the shops in the old town then relax in the many beaches, bars and restaurants surrounding the lake.
Annecy hosts many events throughout the summer, the "Fete du Lac", "Fete de la musique" and the "Annecy Animated Film Festival" are the most popular.
Chamonix is an hour away, and is a fabulous place for outdoor summer activites. A world-renound summer hot-spot for climbers, walkers and sightseers. The "mer de glace" glacier can be accessed by a spectaculr train ride from the center of Chamonix, taking the "aiguille de midi" cable car offers unprecendented views of Mont Blanc. There is also a beautiful outdoor wildlife park, with panoramic mountain views.
Chamonix offers many outdoor activities : 350km of hiking tracks, 40km of mountain biking, exceptional climbing, rafting, canyoning, paragliding, and even helicopter rides over Mont Blanc. From June through to September, Chamonix boasts a full 18 hole golf course, with spectacular views of the surrounding Mont Blanc range. For the kids there are adventure parks, summer tobogan runs, poney trekking and accrobranch.
Aix-les-Bains is an hour away, offering another spectacular lake and wide range of shops and restaurants. Outdoor activities include water sports, mountain biking, walking, hiking, paragliding, canyoning, accrobranch, rafting...
Aix-les-Bains was the first designated thermal spa town in France, and many places offer thermal spa treatments.
Geneva is an hour away, with its beautiful lake, historic old town, luxury shopping and fine restaurants. Many outdoor activites are available both on Lake Léman and in the surrounding Jura mountain range.
The recently opened Vitam’Parc, just outside Geneva, is a combined water park, sports, leisure, spa and shopping complex.
Tour de France
The Tour de France regularly passes through the Haute Savoie region in the summer, with both Le Grand Bornand and Annecy hosting stages many times in recent years.
