Le Grand Bornand is perfect for family oriented holidays in both summer and winter. Children can experience numerous activities in the fresh alpine air.
Le Garderie Les P'tits Maringouins has locations in both Le Grand Bornand village and also in Chinaillon open from 9 am until 5:30 pm.
The Garderie in Le Grand Bornand has play rooms, a motor-exercise room, a book corner, a mini climbing wall, a ball-swimming pool and even a trampoline. They accept children 3 months to 5 years old. Children ages 2-1/2 and older can also participate in Les P’tits Bouts De Glisse where they can learn to ski on the nursery slope. It is open every day of the week.
The Garderie at Le Chinaillon accepts children 8 months to 5 years. It is open only in the winter and only open Monday through to Saturday.
There are four ski schools and clubs for children with ski lessons available between the ages of 3-12 years.
For children ages 3-6 years the ski school’s Piou Piou program is available with a gentle introduction to skiing in a specially reserved area in the centre of the village with a moving walkway.
Children ages 6-12 years can take six half-day group ski lessons.
Between 4-12 years there is also "Mom'en skin" which take children for half or full days including skiing and meals.
Snow-shoeing, ice-skating, dog-sledding and horse-drawn carriage rides from Le Grand-Bornand’s village square along the beautiful Vallee du Bouchet are among other winter activities on offer for families.
Numerous walks are possible through herds of cattle grazing on the high summer meadows, their bells ringing across the valleys. Many small farms are scattered over the mountainside, often selling dairy products at the door. Some restaurants have kids areas with swings and climbing frames all in perfect view of the sunny terraces.
There are village fêtes all through the summer, including Le Chinaillon's Fête d'Alpage, which celebrates traditional mountain activities. There are sheep dog trials, cattle competitions, wood sawing and chopping demonstrations and local food and drink in abundance.
In August there is the annual International Children's festival, Au Bonheur des Mômes; a week long festival of puppet shows, theatre, circus acts, mime, juggling etc. There are also lots of workshops and events that children of all ages can participate in. It finishes with a huge firework display and street party on the last Friday night.
